Why Choose Foothill Wool Walking Socks?
Why Foothill?
Foothill wool walking socks are designed to offer unrivalled long-lasting comfort.
Our aim is that our walking hiking socks will keep your feet cushioned, supported, dry and comfortable throughout your day's walking. In addition our best walking socks will last and last due to the extra reinforcement knitted into them.
The primary key to the performance of a wool walking sock is the quality of the raw materials. At Foothill we only use the highest grade of yarns. All our wool walking socks are at least 60% pure new merino wool.
Wool is the best fibre for thick walking socks because of it's unique dual capacity to wick moisture away from the foot and absorb moisture also. Synthetic fibres will wick away moisture but have no absorbtion so the moisture stays within your boot unless it evaporates. Also our wool is no ordinary wool. We only use extra fine micron merino which is lovely and soft.
Foothill thick walking socks are also knitted to a higher fabric density than average. At a minimum of 60 grams per sock (size 9-11) our socks are much more densely knitted than most.
We aim to offer unmatched value for money. You won't find walking hiking socks made this well at these prices anywhere else.
Free shipping. If you buy from this site we will deliver your walking hiking socks by first class post free of charge.
The Benefits of Wool Walking Socks
When planning a hiking expedition most people put a great deal of thought into their footwear. It's true that if hiking boots don't fit you properly you will end up with blistered feet. However, how much thought have you put into your socks?
It might seem an arbitrary decision, which socks to wear whilst walking. Most of us walk a good distance every day without ever considering what type of socks we are wearing. Considering all this you may be surprised to know that socks are a very important part of your hiking or walking gear.
Good hiking socks can:
- Provide extra padding for your feet
- Reduce friction between your feet and your footwear
- Wick away sweat from your feet
When your feet overheat (as they inevitably will) it's important to stop, taking off your boots and socks. This will give your feet a chance to cool down and dry off - Sweaty feet contribute to blisters. This being the case, the more effective your socks are at keeping your feet dry the better. The more effective your socks are at wicking sweat from your feet, the more ground you will cover in between resting sessions. The better your socks are, the less chance you will have of getting blisters.
Of course – you will still have to take breaks to air your feet and boots no matter how good your socks are. You will also have to bring multiple pairs of socks. Saturated socks are poor at wicking sweat. But just like good boots, good socks are essential to any hiker. Thicker more padded walking wool socks are better as long as they are designed with sweat-wicking in mind. If the socks are simply thick and non-absorbant - matters will only get worse!
You may of course also wish to consider carrying some small fabric strip, cloth or dry flannel in order to help dry your feet at regular intervals. If you don’t want to rummage through your hiking pack for one of many smaller foot-drying solutions, you could bring towel instead.
Just as any chain is only as strong as the weakest link; any boots are only as useful as the socks inside permit them to be.
So which socks will keep your feet dryer for longer? Well, at Foothill Socks we only use the finest raw materials for our wool walking socks. Finer materials provide higher elasticity and absorbancy simultaneously. Our wool walking socks are all at least 60% pure merino wool. Wool is by far the best material to use for walking socks since it has the dual abilities of wicking sweat from your foot and of absorbing excess sweat. Foothill Socks also ensure high fabric density in its products.
Offering unrivalled value for money, Foothill Socks provide the best walking socks around! But don't take our word for it. Take advantage of our free first class postage and try a pair out for yourself! We guarantee that your feet will thank you for it...
